So, i read a headline this morning – “Brita’s Fall From Grace” – because of her recent problems. Whilst it’s no surprise that a newspaper out to make money can, It’s a shame that so many Christians also COMPLETELY misunderstand what a fall from grace actually is.
To fall from grace is NOT to fall into sin or fall from some perfect standard of behavior. It’s just the opposite. The one who attempts to be perfect, the one who attempts to live on the basis of his right or wrong behavior, the one who puts his confidence in the law of Moses, that is the one who falls from grace.
He falls because instead of receiving righteousness as a gift, he attempts to earn through his lifestyle. He falls long and hard because the gift is far higher than his own good works.
As for the Christian whose instead trusts in Jesus to be his righteousness, when he falls into sin, he will find that he lands safely in the arms of grace and mercy.
Here’s the bible;
Gal 5:4 – For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen from God’s grace.
